On Opening Day at Tampa Bay Downs, the centennial celebration of Florida’s second most important racetrack, the gray colt Eldest Son (Into Mischief), brought in from Gulfstream Park, closed out the day’s racing to provide a thrilling finish.
Just when it seemed Eddie The Great (Munnings) was about to overtake and take the victory, the colt ridden by Miguel Vasquez rallied to win by a head in a time of 1:36.22 for the mile on the turf.
It was the second win of the year for this Daugherty Racing LLC representative, who, under the guidance of Nolan Ramsey, has defeated a Stakes winner, Grand Mo The First (Uncle Mo), as part of a fairly consistent campaign. Today, in the Claiming race, he responded with the expected class.
