Shipmate dominates with authority
Back at Gulfstream Park, the chestnut colt Shipmate (Mendelssohn) easily dominated, leading wire-to-wire in the 5 1/2 furlongs of the seventh race of the afternoon. Ridden by Panamanian jockey Miguel Vasquez, the Nolan Ramsey-trained horse pulled away from pressure from the favorite, Itza Lock.
This was the second victory for this Nolan Ramsey-trained horse, who has already achieved classic placings. Today he shone again at this track, clocking a time of 1:02.80 for the distance.
The winner raced in Keneth Ramsey’s colors and looks like a prospect to watch.
